Preliminary rounds for the 57th International Vocal Competition (IVC)

In the lead-up to the 57th International Vocal Competition (IVC) taking place from September 27 through October 5, 2024, in 's-Hertogenbosch, preliminary rounds will be held on February 24 and 25 in the Bernard Haitink Hall of the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Young singers from around the world will fly to Amsterdam to audition for admission to the famous competition, which this year focuses on opera and oratorio. For the preliminary rounds in Amsterdam, 54 singers of 25 different nationalities have been selected. They will be judged by a professional jury consisting of Annett Andriesen (mezzo-soprano and former IVC director), Paul McNamara (tenor and artistic director of the Dutch National Opera Academy DNOA), Josef Fuchs (head of artistic affairs & casting at Nederlandse Reisopera), Waut Koeken (Intendant of Opera Zuid) and jury chairman Andrew Watts (countertenor and general and artistic director of IVC).

After these preliminary rounds in Amsterdam, more preliminaries will take place in 's-Hertogenbosch on June 29 and 30. There are also selections in, among others, England, Germany, Austria, Poland, America, and Sri Lanka, and the possibility to apply via YouTube. The selected candidates will be judged during the competition in September by an international jury including Roberta Alexander (soprano), Michael Chance (countertenor), Pål Christian Moe (casting consultant), Karen Stone (director of Opera Europa), and Monique Wagemakers (stage director).

The IVC Preliminary rounds in Amsterdam will take place on Saturday, February 24, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Sunday, February 25, from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM in the Bernard Haitink Hall of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Oosterdokskade 151 in Amsterdam, and are open to the public.
