Listen to the radio documentary 'Discovering Voices in Brabant' by Julia Kaiser

Broadcasted on Deutschlandfunk on January 31, 2024

At the IVC in 's-Hertogenbosch, it's all about the "three D's", namely "discover, develop, deliver". This means discovering young singers, supporting them, and last but not least, providing them with opportunities on international stages. Between the Noordbrabants Museum and an old biscuit factory, 's-Hertogenbosch was once again fully focused on vocal art in October 2023. During the competition, talents from all over the world present themselves, alternating between the genres of opera, oratorio and, as recently, Lied. The IVC was founded in 1954, and among the winners are names such as Robert Holl, Thomas Hampson, Maria Venuti, or Anneliese Fried. In 2023, among the discovered talents were also two from Germany. And with the British countertenor Andrew Watts, the competition has for the first time a general director who is not from the Netherlands.
