The results of the 52nd IVC

15 September 2018 Canadian tenor Josh Lovell wins 52nd International Vocal Competition ’s-Hertogenbosch.

The Canadian tenor Josh Lovell (1991) has won the Grand Prix of the City of ’s-Hertogenbosch during the Finals of the 52nd International Vocal Competition on Saturday 15 September. He received the prize from departing IVC director Annett Andriesen, who will be succeeded by Ivan van Kalmthout after twelve years.

Josh Lovell not only won the Grand Prix but the Opera Prize as well. Dutch mezzo-soprano Rosina Fabius won the Oratorio Prize, while British mezzo-soprano Claire Barnett-Jones won the Wagner Prize of the Netherlands.
Hartmut Haenchen conducted the nine finalists with the South Netherlands Philharmonic. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was President of the international jury.

The international jury of the IVC 2018 included Dame Kiri Te Kanawa (President), mezzo-soprano Dunja Vejzovic, bass-baritone Robert Holl, countertenor Andrew Watts and tenor Zizheng Yu, Joel Ethan Fried (artistic director Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Jesús Iglesias Noriega (Head of artistic Affairs De Nationale Opera, Amsterdam), Eline de Kat (artistic coördinator Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Nicholas Payne (director Opera Europa) and Evamaria Wieser (Salzburger Festspiele and Lyric Opera of Chicago). 

Future IVC competitions
The next IVC competition will be the Lied Duo Competition (53rd IVC), taking place from 18-25 November 2019 at Theater aan de Parade, ’s-Hertogenbosch. The 54th edition of the IVC Opera | Oratorium, will be held from 25 September- 3 October, 2020.
