Revisited competition programme for 51st IVC

13 July 2016 We have regrettably been compelled to change the programme of the 51st International Vocal Competition.

We have regrettably been compelled to change the programme of the 51st International Vocal Competition, given that our accustomed venue, the Theater aan de Parade in 's-Hertogenbosch, is now closed to the public until 1 November: asbestos has been discovered in parts of its construction and must be removed for public health reasons.

10 - 16 September Lied Duo Competition
The Board of the IVC, the city of 's-Hertogenbosch and the Theater aan de Parade have jointly decided that one of the two sections of the IVC will nonetheless be held this year: the Lied Duo Competition, in which twenty duos are scheduled to take part, will be held from 10 -16 September inclusive. It will begin with the First Rounds on 10 and 11 September, followed by the Semi-Final on 13 September and the Final on 16 September. Precise venues in 's-Hertogenbosch will be made known as soon as possible. The Opera | Oratorio Competition will be held in 2017, with the Final taking place on 16 September 2017.

Workshops, master classes and a round table discussion
Workshops and master classes will be held during the Lied Duo Competition. These will include classes by the composer and soprano Monique Krüs, the composer of this year’s set piece to a text — De Tuin der Lusten — by Pé Hawinkels, and by the world famous Dutch bass-baritone Robert Holl. A round table discussion will also be held before the Final on 16 September 2016, whose theme will be the future of the art song in current and future concert performance. Leading personalities in the field will be asked to relate their ideas over how the song recital will develop and change during the next twenty-five years.

Opera | Oratorio section will follow in 2017
Annett Andriesen, mezzo-soprano and director of the IVC, is delighted that the IVC — despite the organisational and therefore also financial problems that result from them — can continue with the Lied Duo section this year and with the Opera | Oratorio section next year thanks to the loyal and generous support from the city of 's-Hertogenbosch. She adds: “It’s of course a massive disappointment for the seventy-five singers from the Opera | Oratorio section; we had chosen them from a total of 600 candidates and now they have to wait a year.”

Lied Duo Jury
The jury for the Lied-Duo Competition is made up of the singers Elly Ameling, Christianne Stotijn and Robert Holl, the pianists Hans Eijsackers and David Selig, and Aart-Jan van de Pol, programme co-ordinator for concert programming for Het Concertgebouw.
