Royal honour for Annett Andriesen

On Friday 10 March last, Annett Andriesen, mezzo-soprano and director of the International Vocal Competition (IVC) was appointed by Royal decree to the rank of Officer in the Order of Oranje Nassau for her services to culture. She received this honour from the hands of Ton Rombouts, mayor of 's-Hertogenbosch.
The ceremony took place in the Statenzaal of the Noordbrabants Museum in the presence of many colleagues from the world of classical music, including the world-renowned sopranos Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Roberta Alexander.

Mayor Rombouts praised Annett Andriesen for her exceptional dedication and commitment to various cultural organisations and projects over a long period. Alongside her international operatic career, she has also been greatly active in the last decades in the development and encouragement of young singers as they progress through the early stages of their careers towards the important concert halls and opera houses. Annett Andriesen is herself a singer and was a prize winner in the 1975 IVC; she is a key figure in the world of classical vocal music and is a passionate advocate for the preservation and re-evaluation of the art of song. Under her leadership, the IVC has become one of the world’s leading vocal competitions.

Annett Andriesen has taught at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and has held advisory and administrative positions with various theatrical and musical organisations. She has been artistic and administrative director of the International Vocal Competition from 2007. The IVC will hold its 51st competition in ’s-Hertogenbosch from 7 - 16 September 2017.

Annett Andriesen made her debut on the operatic stage in 1967 and has performed regularly at the Dutch National Opera, the Nederlandse Reisopera, Flemish Opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, La Scala Milan, the Opéra de Lyon and San Francisco Opera. In 2010 she sang in the world premiere of Alexander Raskatov’s A Dog's Heart at Dutch National Opera during the Holland Festival; she also appeared in revivals of the production in Milan and Lyon and will return to the Dutch National Opera in their revival of the work this season.
