Prizes 2017

The Competition will award the following prizes:

Prizes Opera | Oratorio Competition 2017

Grand Prix of the City of ’s-Hertogenbosch
First Prize winners are eligible for the Grand Prix of ʼs-Hertogenbosch. The jury will award the special Grand Prix award in the form of a medal to the candidate who displays exceptional qualities of musicianship, choice of repertoire, technique and presentation. The prize is provided by the Municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch.

Opera Prize € 7,500
The winner must have sung at least 4 opera arias during the Competition.

Toonkunst Oratorio Prize € 7,500
The winner must have sung at least 4 oratorio arias during the Competition.

Wagner Prize of the Netherlands € 5,000
The Wagnervereeniging was formed in Amsterdam in 1883, the year of Wagner’s death, and was soon to become renowned. This organisation ceased its activities some 75 years later in 1959 and was followed by the Wagnergenootschap Nederland (WGN) which was founded in 1961. The year 2016 marks the 55th anniversary of the WGN and the Wagner Prize of The Netherlands is the celebration of it. The winner will receive € 5,000 to cover the costs of tuition-fees of a recognised Wagner specialist.
To be considered for the Wagner Prize, the singer must perform music by Richard Wagner in the First Round on 9th September and in the Semi-finals on 12th September. Only those candidates whom the IVC Jury has allowed to progress to the Semi-finals will be considered for the Wagner Prize.

Arleen Auger All-Round Prize € 5,000
The Arleen Auger All-Round Prize — named after the versatile and gifted American soprano — was inaugurated in 1996. It is awarded to the finalist who in the jury’s opinion shows the best all-round professional skills in the categories Opera | Oratorio and/or Lied Duo.
In the Opera | Oratorio category singers must have sung at least two arias from both genres during the Competition.

Prize of the Province of North Brabant € 3,500
The Prize of the Province of North Brabant is awarded to a young talent under the age of 25.
The winner will be determined in the Semi-Finals of the Opera | Oratorio category.

Opera Nederland Prize € 2,500
For a Dutch singer with distinct vocal qualities. The award is made available by
www.operanederland.nl. The winner will be determined during the Semi-finals.
The prize is awarded after the Finale with symphony orchestra on 16 September 2017.

Dioraphte Composition Prize € 1,750
The Dioraphte Composition Prize will be awarded to the participant who best performs the compulsory piece by Monique Krüs. All candidates perform the piece in the Semi-finals.
The jury will nominate a maximum of 2 candidates who will perform the piece with symphony orchestra on 16 September 2017. 

Audience Prize € 1,250
The Audience Prize will be chosen by the members of the audience during the Finals.

Press Prize € 1,000
Awarded by the press jury. The winnnig singer will be determined in the Semi-Finals.

Prize Association Friends of the IVC € 1,500
The winning duo will be determined in the Semi-Finals. Awarded to the winning singer in the Finals on 16 September 2017. 

Junior Jury Prize € 500
The Junior Jury Prize will be awarded by students in voice from several Dutch conservatories.

Laureates' Concerts and Engagements
Various concerts and engagements are offered by artistic directors and opera houses attending the competition if a role is available and appropriate quality is given.

Eugène Pannebakker Lied Duo Prize € 7,500

Dioraphte Composition Prize € 1,750
The Dioraphte Composition Prize will be awarded to the duo who best performs the compulsory piece by Monique Krüs. All candidates perform the piece in the Semi-finals. The jury will nominate 2 duos who will perform the piece in the Finals on 16 September.

Audience Prize € 1,250
The Audience Prize will be chosen by the members of the audience during the Lied Duo Finale.

Press Prize € 1,000
Awarded by the press jury. The winnnig duo will be determined in the Semi-Finals. 

Prize Association Friends of the IVC € 1,500
The winning duo will be determined in the Semi-Finals. Awarded to the winning duo in the Finals on 16 September. 

Junior Jury Prize € 500
The Junior Jury Prize will be awarded by students in voice from several Dutch conservatories.

Elly Ameling Lied Course
Lied Duo pairs can indicate whether they are interested to participate in the Elly Ameling Lied Course to be held at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague on 30 September and 1 Ocober 2016. The management and artistic committee of the Competition decides which 3 duos will be chosen.

Stichting Rudolf H. Schmidt Fund 
The Fund offers one or two engagements and supports projects for young artists.
