The International Vocal Competition ’s-Hertogenbosch is the sole classical vocal competition in the Netherlands that involves oratorio and art song as well as opera, with much attention also being paid to 20th century and to contemporary music. It is a unique cultural institution with long-standing connections to the province of North Brabant and to the city of ’s-Hertogenbosch.

The Competition is open to professional singers and pianists of all nationalities, who have completed their professional education or are currently in their final year and aim for a professional career or have an equivalent level of training. 

Singers: born on 25 November 1988 or later
Pianists: born on 25 November 1983 or later
Participants are not younger than 18 years

For the 53rd IVC Lied Duo Competition, First Round selections are also planned in collaboration with the 15th Lyon International Chamber Music Competition (CIMCL) voice and piano duo and online via YouTube for duos resident ouside of the Netherlands and Belgium.

54th IVC - Opera | Oratorio division

Legendary soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was Jury President of the 52nd edition of the International Vocal Competition (IVC) ‘s-Hertogenbosch, category Opera |Oratorio. This prestigious Competition was held from 8 – 15 September 2018 in Theater aan de Parade in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. 

Hartmut Haenchen will led the Finals with the South Netherlands Philharmonic. 

The IVC offers young and talented singers  the chance to perform for an international jury, casting directors, concert managements, impresarios, the media and public.
The total prize money amounts to € 45,000 and various engagement prizes by Opera Houses and Symphony Orchestras are offered. 

The IVC is open to professional singers of all nationalities, who have completed their professional education or are currently in their final year and aim for a professional career or have an equivalent level of training. 

The Competition includes master classes, media training, feedback from jury members, career development, travel refund for (semi-)finalists and accommodation at host families, ingredients that make up this unique and internationally renowned event.  

Besides Jury President Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, the International Jury included prominent singers such as mezzo-soprano Dunja Vejzovic, countertenor Andrew Watts,  bass Robert Holl, tenor Zizheng Yu (Ningbo University, China) as well as Nicholas Payne (director of Opera Europa),  Joel Ethan Fried (Artistic Director Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Jesús Iglesias Noriega (head of artistic administration Dutch National Opera), Eline de Kat (artistic coordinator Opéra de Monte-Carlo) and Evamaria Wieser (Salzburger Festspiele).

In November 2019 the 53rd International Vocal Competition Lied Duo will be held in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
